Artist Statement 2
Africa, I experienced something very important to human existence - RAIN. It has been on my mind ever since. Rain brings color to landscape. It makes crops grow. It brings life. Children dance when the rain comes because it means food for them and happy parents.
In the South of France I painted a body of work entitled 'Rain Cloud' and wrote this as I set to work on the morning of 3rd July 2008, "Thunder and lightening followed by soft rain fell all night long. Everything is wet today and the clouds are hanging low in the sky this morning. Bleeds between the layers. Smells fresh and alive outside. The rain brought color. There is turbulent air, clouds crying, bands of color, vertical rain and puffy childlike clouds full of dreams. Surreal colors appear late in the day. Baby pink and blue clouds in the sky at 9pm and I feel like Alice in Wonderland.
